چکیده

Abstract Background Scaeva pyrastri (L.) (Diptera: Syrphidae) is a large-size Palaearctic region syrphid fly. The larval stage of S. aphidophagous in nature, while the adults are efficient pollinators various crops. Therefore, this study was carried out to investigate predation efficacy, biology and population growth parameters on cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (Hemiptera: Aphididae) as prey using age–stage-specific two-sex fertility table. Results results showed that mean total development duration 8.31 days pre-adult 19.82 ± 0.25 long. In adult stage, longevity female (18.57 0.37 days) longer than male (15.50 0.17 days). pre-ovipositional, ovipositional post-ovipositional periods were 4.25 0.25, 8.50 0.46 3.25 0.31 days, respectively, female’s fecundity 37.75 1.16 eggs per female. table indicated age-specific ( m x ) increased gradually peaking at 27th day pivotal age (2.71 day) decreased thereafter. life expectancy observed 18th (20.25 19th (16.44 flies, respectively. attained maximum reproductive value v xj 25th day, which 26.05 needed produce one individual. had net reproduction rate 15.10 4.19 offspring individual true generation time 28.86 0.28 days. intrinsic increase greater zero (0.093 0.011) finite λ (1.098 0.012), B. suitable for . values related number aphids consumed by larvae were: C o 377.06 26.54 nymphs ω 19.58 0.78. Conclusions considerable predatory potential fitted well biological control aphids, especially brassicae. However field still unknown; thus, will be helpful determining efficacy against

Purification and characterisation of a non-plant myrosinase from the cabbage aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.).

Plant myrosinases and glucosinolates constitute a defence system in cruciferous plants towards pests and diseases. We have purified for the first time a non-plant myrosinase from the cabbage aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) to homogeneity. The protein was N-terminally blocked and protease (trypsin and lys c) degradation gave peptides of which five were sequenced. The protein is a dimer with sub...

Cytogenetic analysis on the holocentric chromosomes of the cabbage aphid Brevicoryne brassicae

Chromatin organization in the holocentric chromosomes of the aphid Brevicoryne brassicae has been investigated at a cytological level after C-banding, NOR, Giemsa, DAPI and CMA3 staining. C-banding technique showed the presence of heterochromatic bands on both telomeres of the two X chromosomes, whereas only the longest pair of autosomes show distinct intercalary C-positive bands. Moreover, sil...

Purification and characterization of myrosinase from the cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae), a brassica herbivore.

Aphids are among the most serious insect pests of agricultural crops in the world. They often have specific hosts, and the cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) is a specialist on Cruciferae. It has previously been described that certain insects contain the enzyme myrosinase (EC 3.2.3.1), which is considered an important defence enzyme of crucifers. Myrosinase was purified to homogeneity from c...

sampling procedure and temporal-spatial distribution of the cabbage aphid, brevicoryne brassicae l. (hemiptera: aphididae), on canola

to estimate population density of the cabbage aphid, brevicoryne brassicae (l.), a stratified random sampling was conducted in two unsprayed canola fields in isfahan (central iran) during 2011-2012. population density was determined for apterous, and alates, as well as the total population, at two plant growth phases (pgp1: from plant emergence to the end of rosette, and pgp2: from the beginnin...

Resistance of Cabbage Aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (Linnaeus) to Endosulfan, Organophosphates and Synthetic Pyrethroids

Laboratory bioassays were done to determine the level of resistance to endosulfan, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, methamidophos, profenofos and chlorpyrifos in field populations of cabbage aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae (L). Comparison between Multan and Kabirwala strains revealed that the level of resistance in Multan strain was comparatively higher to methamidophos, profenofos and chlorpyrifos as ...
